Tui-Na Massage Therapy
Tui-Na (pronounced Twee-Na) is a hands-on massage treatment that is similar to acupuncture in the way it targets specific acupoints, but practitioners use fingers instead of needles to apply pressure to stimulate the points.
The practitioner may brush, knead, roll, press and rub the area between joints, to open the body’s energy channels and get the energy moving in the meridians and muscles. As a result, Tui-Na therapy focuses on active acupressure points that may not be located near the site of injury. The practitioner also uses range-of-motion traction, with the stimulation of these acupressure points.
Tui-Na massage can be used to treat pain and illness, or to maintain good health. The technique is effective in reducing stress, encouraging relaxation, and deepening sleep. It’s often used for conditions and injuries related to the musculoskeletal and nervous systems.
Tui-Na massage does not use oils, nor require patients to remove their clothing—although soft clothing is recommended.
